April was noticeably busier than the 1st 3 months of 2024 and considerably busier than the same time period in 2023. We served 51 additional meals daily or 2,659 more meals during the month. Our upcoming concern is the month of May which is traditionally the busiest month of our year and usually sets the tone for the remainder of the year. Currently we are guesstimating another record breaking year ending with 170,000 to 175,000 meals/lunches served. Thank you so much to all who inquired about our wish list items for the week and for all of those who came in to donate. The community support we receive is greatly appreciated and you all play a major role in our feeding program. This week our wish list items are snacks such as cookies, granola bars or pudding. These items are added to our lunch bags everyday for a sweet treat option and are something we are always in need of. We are also asking for margarine. On average over 300 sandwiches are prepared daily for our cold lunch bags and margarine is something we use plenty of around here. Baby carrots are another item which gets plenty of use whether it be as an extra in our cold lunch bags with a ranch dip, served as our hot vegetable or incorporated into our meal we love when we get the opportunity to serve them. Next is boxed scallop potato`s or mashed potato`s always make great for our daily starch and always go to great use. Last but certainly not least is sugar. Whether it be for our coffee station, baking or being used in our daily hot meal sugar is one item that can be hard to keep up with the demand for. These are our wish list items but we accept and encourage all donations. Donations can be dropped off daily between 9:00am-3:30pm. We have another opportunity for an awesome individual to join our team at the Dew Drop Inn. The Dew is looking for a Finance and Administration Officer. This is a full time position, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Knowledge of and experience working with Quickbooks and Keela is definitely an asset. Thank you to Craig Peterson on behalf of the IBEW Local 402 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 402) for sponsoring our entire Sunday at the Dew Drop Inn for the National Day of Mourning - in memory of those who have died, been injured or suffered an illness in the workplace. On the menu for our hot meal service today is a hearty and healthy turkey stew served with mashed potatoes, a side salad and buttered roll. All hot meals are served with soup, dessert, a choice of beverage and the option of enjoying in our dining room or taken home.
