The Dew Drop Inn is looking for some awesome individuals to join our team as a Director on our Board.
Who are we?
St. Andrew Soup Kitchen Inc. is a non-profit corporation and registered charity that operates a soup kitchen called St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn. Our task is simple: we feed hungry people with no questions asked. We rely on the tremendous support of the community and a great number of caring volunteers – church groups, service clubs, schools, organizations, businesses, and individuals – who give their time and money so that we can provide a nutritious midday meal each and every day.
Board Position Overview
The Board of the Dew Drop Inn is a volunteer Board. Collaborating with other dedicated volunteers, a Director of the Board will:
- Actively support the mission and strategic objectives of St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn.
- Attend monthly Board meetings, committee meetings and conduct other board tasks.
- Be informed of agenda items and contribute knowledgeably to the discussion and decisions of the Board.
- Provide guidance, suggestions, and expertise on matters that would be beneficial for the long-term growth of St. Andrew’s Dew Drop Inn.
- Abide by the Board of Directors Code of Conduct.
- Represent and promote the organization at community events or special functions.
- Make a commitment for a three-year term.
What are we looking for:
Ideally, a Director of the Board should possess the following qualities:
- Skilled in organizational governance and formulation of policy.
- Ability to work with and be respectful of other board members, staff, volunteers, and patrons served by the organization.
- Strong leadership and the ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Previous board and volunteer experience.
- Knowledge of assessing and mitigating risk.
- Some knowledge of food security in Thunder Bay and a strong commitment to help the hungry in our community.
- Experience in one or more administrative areas such as accounting, human resources, legal matters, legislation, and policy in relation to Not-for-Profit organizations.
- Some familiarity with public relations, social media, and information technology.
