“You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” Winston Churchill
As a seasoned professional accountant and qualified Board Director with 20+ years of volunteer experience within our community and abroad, I volunteer for the DDI because:
- It is very fulfilling to use the professional and social skills gain throughout my life to support a worthy cause and give back to our great community by helping an organization that has such a wide community impact and relies heavily on volunteers to carry out its mandate. I can do what I love while helping others and making a positive impact on someone’s life.
- As a DDI Board member, I am part of a team with a common goal of “providing a nourishing meal while building a community of inclusion, dignity and respect”. It is an opportunity meet people, and make new friends that share common interests, values, and outlooks.
- Volunteering takes me into a new part of my community, enabling me to learn about cultures and ways of life that are different from my own, gain a whole new perspective and better understand social issues that others in our community face.
- Volunteering is humbling. It has taught me greater compassion, enriches my life, and gives me a greater sense of purpose. It is a way to give back, help others and pay it forward…because you never know when you may need a little help of your own!
