This year’s Lenten Project for the Grade 6 class from Holy Family School was about “making a difference”.  The students began by investigating local charities and decided to focus on the Dew Drop Inn.  They then needed to get the word out about their project so they made posters, decorated boxes for collecting donations, created a video which they presented to the school and sent information home to parents.  Putting their entrepreneurial skills to work, they also sold Persians and crafts that they had made in an effort to raise funds for the Dew Drop Inn’s Dishwashing Centre Renovation.

Once their fundraising project was completed, the students’ teacher Ms. Garieri contacted the Dew Drop Inn and arranged for the class to visit.  The children arrived at the Dew Drop Inn with boxes of donated items they had collected.  After touring the facility with Julio Chiodo, the children surprised the soup kitchen manager by presenting him with a $925 cheque to assist with funding of the dishwasher project.

Special thanks to the students for all their hard work in support of the Dew Drop Inn and for “making a difference” for hungry people in our community.
