Kitchen renovations are underway at the Dew Drop Inn soup kitchen on Red River Road.  The project, which focusses on the dishwashing centre, was initiated by the Board of Directors of the soup kitchen in response to the growing number of people being served each day.  In 2014, the Dew Drop Inn served over 66,000 meals.  “The current dishwasher is now 9 years old,” said Paul Deighton, Board President, “and with 200+ people being served most days, repairs were becoming more frequent and less cost effective.”

The project includes the purchase of a new high-temperature, hood-type commercial dishwasher, stainless steel tabling and related renovations to the kitchen to accommodate the new installation.  “The current dishwashing process is a bit like navigating an obstacle course,” said Soup Kitchen Manager, Julio Chiodo.  “The redesign will streamline the whole process from the time the soiled dishes enter the kitchen to when the clean dishes are put away.”

The project is expected to take two weeks to complete and has been estimated at a little over $50,000.  Anyone wishing to donate or learn more about the Dishwashing Centre Renovation Project may do so by calling the Dew Drop Inn office at 345-5202.
