Job Summary

Reporting to the Soup Kitchen Manager, this permanent part-time position is primarily responsible for supervising the activities of the Dew Drop Inn soup kitchen on weekend shifts (Saturday and every 2nd Sunday), holidays and possible evening shifts.


  • Coordinate and oversee soup kitchen activities.
  • Provide training/guidance, as required, to volunteers with regard to their assigned tasks ensuring that safe food handling and cleaning practices are followed.
  • Ensure the safety of volunteers and clients while on the premises and document any incidents of concern.
  • Manage problems/issues that may arise.
  • Ensure that adequate quantities of food and supplies are available.
  • Assist with inventory management to ensure the timely and efficient use of purchased and donated food.
  • Ensure that facilities are in good operating order and kept clean and tidy.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.


  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan work and direct volunteers.
  • Ability to understand/interpret relevant legislation.
  • Self-motivated, able to take initiative.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage workload with a mimimum of supervision.
  • Post secondary school graduate with education or equivalent experience in a restaurant setting or the food service industry.
  • Must possess a current Safe Food Handling Certificate.
  • Experience in a management, front-line supervisory capacity.
  • Experience working as a volunteer or with volunteers in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience working with marginalized populations
Time Commitment  A weekly commitment will average 14 to 20 hours per week.
