VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Job Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator manages volunteers to ensure a highly motivated group of individuals who are committed to serving the Dew Drop Inn soup kitchen according to its mission.  The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, engages and evaluates volunteers, and is responsible for coordinating volunteer orientation, networking and training opportunities.

 

Responsibilities
  • Establish, maintain and circulate volunteer job descriptions and postings to effectively recruit individuals for a variety of volunteer roles.
  • Create and maintain relationships with community organizations and individuals to grow a solid volunteer base.
  • Communicate with new volunteers to manage their orientation experience.
  • Coordinate volunteer orientation sessions.
  • Ensure volunteers are engaged through consistent and effective communication.
  • Evaluate volunteers on an ongoing basis to provide improved volunteer progress and program fit.
  • Coordinate recognition efforts to acknowledge volunteer commitment.
  • Maintain databases for tracking information with regard to volunteer profiles, roles and scheduling.
  • Participate in strategic discussions related to improving the volunteer program.
  • Provide clerical support as it pertains to the soup kitchen operation.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.

 

Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of professionalism.
  • Solid organizational skills and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Post-secondary school graduate.
  • Basic computer skills including use of MS Word/Excel and familiarity with standard email technology.
  • Previous experience working with or supervising volunteers in a non-profit environment.
Time Commitment  A weekly commitment will average between 15 and 20 hours per week.
